The band is essentially a three-piece outfit that explore the limits of guitar based rock whilst tipping their hats to the history of the genre. The new album is a collection of songs written in thumb's seventh year of existence. Recorded quickly compared to previous releases and a truer reflection of their live sound, "strange kept plain" is thumb today and a clue to thumb tomorrow. I certainly do not have reservations about taking ideas, sounds or methods from the 70's, but Thumb appear to have embraced it so wholly on Strange Kept Plain. Whilst big on the overdriven guitars and funk-rock percussion of the aforementioned golden age, Thumb also pay respect to early 90's rock giants Pearl Jam and Kyuss, especially on the heavier ditties. The most promising aspects of this album are the dynamism of the three instruments and the "live" recording process, a very worthy take on the far more organic recording methods of (dare I say it) the 70's. This lends the recording a fluid, natural feel; one could almost imagine the three-piece playing in your lounge room, study or den, wherever you personally feel
most comfortable

A relativly unheard of band with amazing talent. You will love this album. It contains some amazing riffs spliced together with intelligent thought provoking lyrics to create one of those albums you never get bored with. This album will blow you away.
