SKINGAME: S/T CD combination of electronic rock and melodic guitar.

The self-produced CD from this Boston quintet features eight tracks plus 'Radio edits' of four of the songs. This is Skingame’s self-titled debut -recorded at Sound Techniques in Boston– provides a combination of electronic rock and melodic guitar. The band takes their name from the 1931 Hitchcock film.
Fans of Static X, Hanzel Und Gretyl, Kidney Thieves, Machines of Loving Grace, and Sister Machine Gun will more than likely dig this! Skingame play a style of Rock which falls solidly into the 'Alternative' category.
Funky basslines, catchy riffs, emotional vocals and electronic programming combine to make a sound which is hard to categorise but easy to listen to. Not as blatantly commercial as a band like Bush, but less intense than bands like Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson, this band falls into a kind of middle ground that would probably appeal to fans of all the aforementioned bands. That's not to say that they sound like any of them exactly, but it's that style of music. The main thing that is apparent with most of the songs is that they employ a lot of style and tempo changes, traversing in many of the tracks from slow, moody passages with soulful vocals to crunchy quasi-Industrial breaks dominated by guitar and vocals that scream with emotion. It is fair to say that it is the vocals of Scott Shunk which give the songs most of their character. The man sure can sing, and his voice is suited perfectly to the music. Or perhaps it's the music that's suited to his voice. Either way, when it's all wrapped up together it sounds like it was meant to be. If emotional, powerful Contemporary Rock is your bag, then this is well worth a look.
