5.0 out of 5 stars Holds a treasured spot in my collection...,
Satchel is a conglomeration of all the best things in music, crammed into one brilliant project that has a life of it's own. The songs go from hard rocking psychedelia (Mr. Brown, Mr. Pink, Equilibrium) to reserved, emotional piano ballads (Trouble Come Down, Suffering). This CD has a whole feel to it, just a bunch of guys getting together and rocking out without limitations or expectations. The notebook has a segment on why weed should be legalized, and you can see that some of the band were on the wacky weed when they made some of the songs on this CD like the hauntingly beautiful Hollywood. Willow is another highlight, it's a meloncholy spacey guitar song, something Satchel never came back to on The Family, which is a much more piano infused record. At this point I should say I'm a big fan of Shawn Smith, his solo work, Brad, and Pigeonhed. The best experience on this album rightfully comes at the end with the start of The Roof Almighty, this track only last for under 2 minutes or so and leaves you wanting more, but then you get nailed with Suffering, which is the best song Shawn Smith has ever been involved in, one of my top five favorite songs easily (coming from a guy with almost 400 cds, that means something). I can say nothing else but get this one, it's the perfect record to play on a rainy day, or when you need some time to think. You will not regret making the journey into EDC. Thanks for reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars stunningly full of emotion,
From the first instant, I became a fan, This is no ordinary band. Not grunge, I would call it Jazz infused rock with lots of soul. Shawns voice haunts and touches the listener in ways other artists only dream of . They only get better too, I own all of thier albums ( including the Brad albums too) and eagerly await more.

5.0 out of 5 stars STILL SOUNDS GREAT
Working in a record Store in 1995 we received a lot of promos on a daily basis and the owner allowed me to take them all home. The first time I gave this a spin I was like WOAH!!! there's something about this that has my full attention. This material is not Grunge, Funk, Hard Rock, Trash Jazz, Ballads etc.. it's all that combined and more and perfected like a fine piece of art. Shawn Smith's vocal style changes throughout this disc from soulful to powerful on "Taste It" and a little funky on the Hip Hopish/Ballad "Trouble Comes Down" in a style that reminds me of the late Marvin Gaye and then we have "More Ways Than 3" which has a Grunge/Psychedelic sound and then the first stand out for me "Hollywood" that has a slow, sad, haunting creepy sound about the "Darkside of Hollywood" and I swear Shawn's vocal style on this one reminds me of the late Andrew Wood. "O" switches to a funky jazz style. and then there's "Mr. Pink" one of my favorite tracks on this disc that is always turned up LOUD when in rotation. The others tracks on this disc with the exception of the last "Suffering" are really "Filler" of Funk/Metal/Soul for me however still very enjoyable.

Recently when I went to replace my worn out copy I was surprised to find how difficult it was to find another CD and especially a new one. This album is very underrated in my opinion, and one I consider a 'Classic" in my large collection and full of variety. I would love to see a deluxe edition one day.

The song "Suffering" was featured in the films Beautiful Girls and The Girl Next Door. It was also featured in an episode of One Tree Hill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotionally sensitive and powerful,
Satchel is not very well known. This album came out in 1995, and he has recorded only two albums total. What I love about this album and this artist is that it doesn't just follow the main trends. Moreover, Satchel's music is very powerful and emotionally engaging. Especially I love the lyrics. You will not regret purchasing this CD. Go for it.
