Water is Saigon Kick's third album. It was originally planned to be titled, "Fields of Rape", but censorship concerns forced the band to change it. The album cover was not changed. It is the first Saigon Kick album to feature guitarist Jason Bieler on lead vocals, and to feature bassist Chris McLernon. A music video was created for the song "I Love You".

5.0 out of 5 stars SAIGON KICK AT THEIR BEST!!,
This album should have been big. This is one of my favorite albums put out by any band. The production is great, the harmonies are great, and each song holds it's own. There is no filler here. Their cover of David Bowies classic "Space Oddity" is probably the best cover song I have heard. They had a single with "I Love You" that should have been a bigger hit but with bands like Pearl Jam and Nirvana being the "in thing" they didn't have much of a chance. Saigon Kick really have their own sound and are hard to lump in a category of music. Lots of rock/progressive rock/harmonies and a classical touch all together in the sound. Nothing wrong with that.

You will like this album if you like hard rock with harmonies, ballads that have thought out, meaningful lyrics, not just something thrown together to make a hit. Every now and then a band comes along that has a unique sound with poetic-like lyrics and music that flows in a perfect way. This is that band and their best album in my opinion. A top 10 in my collection and should be in yours.

Stand Out songs(although they change all the time) "On And On" "When You Were Mine" "Water" and "I love You"

5.0 out of 5 stars Nearly Perfect Alternative Rock,
Being a fan of Jane's Addiction, and their heavy assualt of guitars and melody, this band Saigon Kick immediately appealed to me the moment I first heard "What You Say" a few years before this release. Saigon Kick have a hard rock sound with as much melody as a Kings X, or Extreme had briefly also in the early 90's. To me this was perfect alternative rock, call it whatever you want, but that's what it is to me. SK can switch gears from song to song just like these bands mentioned also, and tone it down just as easily as they crank it up.

This was the first album to not feature Matt Kramer, Jason Bieler takes over lead vocal duties along with guitar of course, and to me does a fine job of it, not really missing a beat even adding some things to the mix perhaps?

All the songs on here are amazing, they do a cover of Bowies "Space Oddity" which is just beautiful, and my favorite song on the CD is "Torture" which has great hooks, verses, this song just flows...it churns along and sticks in your head long after it fades.

The Ballad "I Love You" is an example of the softer side that's been heard since the debut, and a song like "The Way" almost reminds you of the Doors, and continues the albums running emotional rollercoaster. It's like waves crashing all over while you hold on at times. "On and On" seems like a catchy pop song that they have written, but just shows what they are truly capable of and what they do best: Keeping us guessing and grooving from track to track. "Close To You" is another one of my favs, by this time you are adjusted after hearing "My Heart", but then being thrown into a bouncy (but dark) "Sentimental Girl". On "Close To You" as soon as the drums kick in you go "here we go again" with the tribal thing...and this one just soars when Jason sings "when you're all alone you know I'm not that hard to find", it just fits perfectly with the flow of the album to me. The album closes with the reprise of "Gotta Believe there's something better than this". I really can't think of much that is better than this, not then...and probably not now.

Fans of Faith No More, Jane's Addiction, and some other old school late 80's early 90's alternative rock/hard rock should consider this or any Saigon Kick CD essential to their collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome...!!!,
I bought it to replace my lost CD. I loved it from the beginning, and surprise that hard to find it again in the market.
This is their greatest album, I may say. "Field of rape','(david bowie) space oddity','I love you','On and On' still thrill me... Jason is awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly underated band,
Love this disc. Everytime I pop it in I enjoy it and can listen from Track 1 to the end. Standout songs, "One Step Closer"; "On and On" (great bass line in this one); "Sgt. Steve"; "Fields of Rape"; "When You Were Mine". This is Bieler at his best. Love his stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still brilliant despite loss of Kramer and Defile., December 27, 2001
By jose marcial (central florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Water (Audio CD)
Even though I'm a big fan of the 1st 2 albums, it took the losses of Tom Defile and lead singer Matt Kramer to force Jason Beiler to take control of the band, and display his full musical genius! "Water" is one of the most original albums I've ever heard. It rocks!(one step closer, torture)has some beautiful melodic songs(I love you)and even a Fixx-like song(on and on)I love this cd! This cd takes you on such a different range of emotions it's hard to describe. Just get it! Why they were dropped by Atlantic(third stone records)after this release is the crime of the century!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece,
Absolutley brilliant work, in my opinion their best album..although if your more into hard rock, you might wanna pick up The Lizard which is almost as good. But if i could recommend you just one Saigon Kick CD, this is the one. So many great songs, i fell in love with a girl and the song "I Love You" was our anthem, it was so true to our relationship it was sorta eerie. I still get chills whenever i hear the song(since she left me), and now the song "When You Were Mine" seems to have become the anthem. Anyways, they didn't tone it all down, songs like "One Step Closer" and "Torture" still rock like the first 2 albums. Some wierd experimentation on tracks like "Water" and "Close to You" work really well. Not to mention the excellent cover of "Space Oddity". "Fields of Rape" and "On and On" are also personal Saigon favs of mine. You'd be a fool not to pick this up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply amazing.,
One of the most underappreciated bands, one of the most underappreciated albums. This is one of the best compilations of music I have ever heard. I grabbed the CD when I was in high school and it remains of my favorites. It is unclear to me how this did not have massive success, maybe they were a bit too progressive for thier timeframe, but this will go down one of the music industries best kept secrets.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Band You Cant Find In The Stores,
the so called professional music critics always seem to put this awesome band down, for the life of me i just cant understand why?this is a band with no equal PERIOD!!!their sound is not to be and shouldn't be compared to any other band.they were unique and are very very sorely missed.in their time we had the big bands like nirvana and metallica dominating the music scene.if Saigon kick came out now in 2010 i personally think their path would have been different.i think they would have been taken more seriously by the public.they really gave it their all to please us,the listening public.maybe we can make it up to them by requesting to the record company [ATLANTIC RECORDS]to put their records back on the shelves so the people can hear it again?all their albums were great and this one Water is no exception.

5.0 out of 5 stars Again, theyre underated...but dont pass them by!,
One Step Closer...now with Jason on vocals, and still rocking and show it with the heavy guitar and chanting lyrics of this opening song. A cover of David Bowie's Space Oddity to back it up...and countless other harmony filled, guitar laden, partially electronic songs (hey, it works nice with these guys!) and you can see where theyre coming from...straight behind you swinging a bat! Again their sense of humor comes to the surface on this album, and again, pick it up, it will give you hope that people will stop copying from other people and make real rock and roll!

----------------------------------------------------------

5.0 out of 5 stars Great and unique musicianship,
Unfortunately this band will probably never get the recognition they deserve. It's like a breath of fresh air when I listen to this CD because they have great melody's and rock with the best of them. I hope to hear another album from them in the future.
