Bay Area bands Potential Threat SF. This 4 song disc is the end result of many days the band spent in San Francisco's storied Hyde St. Studios. According to Kenny Noble, the drummer of this power trio, " the time they put in to this was to make it album ready production." The CD comes in a grainy black, white and grey slip cover. On the front there is a photo of a dude carrying a guitar case with the bands' name on it. The back shows a photo of the band and the obligatory credits, track titles and so on - nothing really fancy here, it's only the music that matters anyway. I slipped the CD into my player and cranked it up... the ONLY real way to listen to metal as it was meant to be heard.
The first track which is called "Day of Infamy," it immediately gets under my skin and has me looking forward to seeing it preformed live. According to Mike Noble - guitar/vox, he wrote this song about the attack on 911 and our response to them. The tempo is relentless, as all good hard core thrash should be and it reminds me a little of Exodus in the 80's with a taste of punk. The guitars are tuned down to C so what you get that evil crunch. That coupled with the frantic pounding on the drums has me doing some serious head banging.
Track two, "Enemy Within" continues this sonic assault. I find myself getting into the crushing guitar tone. The vocals have the right mix of anger, intensity and depth . I really like the "hearing it live feeling" you get with the production of this recording.
The third track "Walk Through Fire" is my personal favorite. There is this one part where the backing vocals by Tom Padden on bass sounds to me a lot like Lemmy from Motorhead and has this great line as part of the chorus that alternates with Mike's " my fist... your face... my fist in your face... fist in your face... " I don't know about you, but nothing says jump in the pit to me more than that.
"All For Nothing" is another hard hitting in your face ripper.
If you love hard core thrash as much as I do, then I think you will love this band.
