OUT OF YOUR ELEMENT: So it Goes So It Goes CD ..Poppy punk

So It Goes is the pleasant debut record from poppy punk band Out of Your Element. The group crafts warm and emotional punk rock that cuts the snotty attitude and smarmy delivery that often comes with the genre. Because of this, it is far easier to take the lyrics seriously, helping the band's sound rise above many of its underground contemporaries. The band rarely changes its plan of attack throughout the album; even the acoustic "So Long" merely uses different instruments to get the job done. But Out of Your Element's formula is an effective one, offering bright and shimmering guitar work over snappy and simple drumming and liquid basslines. The difference is singer Steve Dunn, who sounds quite sincere and even naïve as he delivers lines like "F**k you, I'm leaving/F**k you, you're coming with me." The band may not be that original, but the delivery pulls this record out of averageness and makes it worthy of recommendation to fans of the genre.
