A Canadian aor trio made up of Saga members, Steve Negus and Jim Gilmour, and a host of session musicians, which included Wrabit guitarist, John Albani, and Red Rider bassist, Jeff Jones.
Saga goes to aor town...
Jim Gilmour was born in Scotland, but his family moved to Canada while he was still a child. He began playing piano at the age of seventeen. He also learned to play the clarinet. Inspired by Eddie Jobson and his band UK, he briefly performed as lead vocalist and keyboardist in a Prog-Jazz band which featured GENTLE GIANT and STEELY DAN songs.
He joined the band SAGA just before that band recorded its third album "Silent Knight" as its keyboardist, replacing prior keyboardist Greg Chadd. In the 1980's, during a hiatus from the band SAGA, Gilmour and band drummer Steve Negus formed GNP (The Gilmour Negus Project), featuring vocalist Robert Bevan, which released one album "Safety Zone" in 1987.

Musically GNP is a cross between Saga and that other Canadian AOR act Agent, with Bevan's vocals at times zeroing in on Alfie Zappacosta with alarming similarity. A few guests play on this album as well, namely Jeff Jones (Red Rider) on bass, John Albani(Wrabit, Lee Aaron) and Bob Bartolucci on guitars. It's good lightweight pomp, without the dramatic instrumentation for which Messrs. Gilmour and Negus are more renowned for. 'Love Must Be The Answer' is a rather nice and laid back tune, while the title track 'Safety Zone' is represented twice on the album, the last version being an extended mix. There's a couple great ballads in 'Remembering' and 'In Your Eyes' and also a handful of upbeat rockier tracks in 'Russian Roulette' and 'One Life', the latter featuring the talent of John Albani.
