The Confligo born in Isernia in 1998 and, after his debut with the epic demo Heathen Pride in 2000, a Gothic symphonic reproduce again in this well-designed The Edge of Pain .
It 'amazing how the band, although the self-produced full-length dated 2003, is a professional international team equipped with label and management: The Edge of Pain , limited to 666 copies, comes with a color booklet and an unusual envelope printed with the number of single specimen.

Regarding the appearance of the lyrics, the Confligo are totally cut off from the topics covered in previous Heathen Pride , now addressing universal themes that characterize human existence. Each of the seven tracks of the album is is one of the sentiments that distinguish the human mind and soul: the complexity of the work is to be found precisely in the difficulty of transmitting these emotions, changing the tone of the composition and adjusting values analyzed in each piece.

Relevant to understand fully the implementation of the disk is also the new entry in the line-up than the previous publication: the presence of a singer who joins the soprano Heathen Pride , enriches the vocal section, lightening choirs and making the composition more exciting. finally noteworthy is the contribution of keyboards, timely and profound, that shape the sounds with their ladders or symphonic sound with melodic themes.

It is precisely these keys to open the Edge of Pain with their effects between electronic and classical instrumental in Hypnerotomachia (Pavor) , the atmosphere is inviting and the work of song-writing is high in the second Spiritual Inner Destiny (Peccatum) .

I Confligo nascono dalle ceneri dei Melmoth, band creata nel 1998 da Yhades e Tifernum che si muoveva sulle coordinate tipiche del gothic metal ispirandosi principalmente ai Teathre of Tragedy, successivamente nel 2000 la modifica della line up e diversi cambi stilistici portano i due fondatori a cambiare il nome della band. E da qui nascono i Confligo.
Il sound dei molisani si basa sull’ epic e sul gothic metal mischiato con parti folk e black, ascoltando il disco sono subito chiare le principali influenze della band. Infatti pur avendo una buona personalità la band è chiaramente ispirata da vari gruppi, su tutti i greci On Thorn I Lay e i Cradle of Filth.
L’album in questione viene alla luce tre anni dopo il predecessore autoprodotto “Heathen Pride”, ed è veramente un prodotto di ottimo livello, che si farà apprezzare all’interno della scena underground italiana e credo anche all’estero. I punti di forza della band sono la splendida voce di Antonella Raimondi (a cui si è unita alla voce Giorgia Guerra), i growl di Yhades che danno vigore alle traccie dell’album, un buon lavoro tastieristico di base che concorre a creare l’insalubre atmosfera dell’album e il buon apporto dei nuovi arrivati Kosmos e Nephilim-Rurik.
Il disco parte con un intro strumentale in cui la fa da padrone la tastiera di Tifernum e che sprigiona ansia e anticipa il buon livello dell’album. Segue “Spiritual inner destiny“, che parte con dei riff di classic metal, a cui segue la bella voce di Antonella Raimondi che viene accompagnata dai growl di Yahdes e dall’incedere della batteria di nephilim, all’interno della track vi sono parti un po più rallentate con una presenza veramente ben riuscita delle tastiere. Terza track del disco è “Like a winter storm” uno dei pezzi migliori dell’album, che viene interamente assegnato ai growl di Yahdes solo raramente interrotto da Antonella e in cui è presente una grande armonia tra tutti gli strumenti presenti soprattutto tra chitarra e batteria. Altro pezzo strumentale del disco è interlude, che interrompe per un minuto e mezzo l’ansia dell’ascoltatore in attesa di riprendere l’inesorabile marcia verso il dolore della vita. Arriviamo così alla title track del disco, la canzone parte con un ritmo molto cadenzato e da un coro molto epico che introduce la voce sofferente di Yhades leggermente cupa che incede inesorabile, interrotta solo da brevi parti strumentali e cori che trasmettono l’angoscia insita nella canzone. La successiva The Game è sicuramente la canzone più energica e veloce del disco caratterizzata da parti che devono molto all’epic e da assoli che non fanno dimenticare che i confligo sono una gothic metal band, l’attenzione viene subito catturata da melodie molto orecchaiabili e dalla riuscitissima combinazione tra le voci di Antonella e di Yhades. E viene il momento di The Long Farewell, un'altra perla del disco, con una buona performance canora di Antonella, anche i growl di Yahdes risultano molto incisivi e creano un atmosfera colma di angoscia insieme con le tastiere e le chitarre a tratti molto taglienti. Il disco si chiude con una cover Moonlight Shadows che viene realizzata accoppiando alla voce pulita di Antonella i growl taglienti di Yhades e dei riff metallici che danno alla canzone un aspetto veramente originale.
Per concludere non posso che consigliare a tutti questo album, fatto da una band pronta per il grande salto e completa in tutti i suoi elementi, anche le liriche sono veramente indovinate e seguono una scaletta che sembra lineare, si parte dal peccato (Spiritual Inner Destiny), a cui segue l’amore (Like a Winter Storm), il dolore (Edge of Pain), la vita (The Game) ed infine ovviamente la sopravvenuta morte (The long Farewell). Un disco imprescindibile per chi ama il gothic specie per chi adora gli On Thorns I Lay.
