Best description would be "mystical folk music". The main instrument used in Carved In Stone's music is the acoustic guitar. If you like this instrument, then this band is for you as it is used constantly from the beginning to the end of the album. The music on "Hear The Voice" is played exclusively (except for a few guest acoustic guitar parts) by one lone female member; Swawa. She is very good at playing the acoustic guitar and also is very good with the other traditional instruments she plays on here like the Cletic harp and flutes. There are also a few keyboard parts here and there, but oddly they really fit the traditional aspect well. This music is very emotional and you can tell Swawa is in tune with her heritage and her love for nature. The acoustic guitars just seem to be a great backdrop to the floating and meandering harps and flutes, and her beautiful voice adds a dimension that has to be heard to believe. The lyrics are written in and sung in both English and German, Swawa's native language. As stated above, she has an other worldly voice and it seems like she sings these lyrics of ancient gods, nature and wildlife like she has experienced it all herself eons ago. The production on "Hear The Voice" is excellent. People who are interested in acts like Loreena McKennitt, Hagalaz' Runedance / Nebelhexë or maybe the French folk act Stille Volk should definitely check this out.
