"refreshing mix from atmospheric Black Metal and progressive Death Metal", as comparisons they mention BORKNAGAR and DARK TRANQUILLITY with added sense for experiments, once more quite big words for a newcomer, so how can the band from around Turin follow these praises? "The Dawn" contains the three tracks of the demo CD "Valholl", which had led to the contract with Golden Lake, as well as six brand new songs and the first three sound attacks of the Italians are just those three demo tracks. The first of them mixes Melodic Death with some Gothic Metal elements and besides menacing growls also features excellent clean vocals and a bit Black Metallic shrieking, plus keyboard support, sounds pretty interesting already right away. "Valholl" then reminds me quite a bit of old VINTERSORG with its amalgamation of Black Metal and epic sounds (musically as vocally), really good so far! And also the third one of the bunch, "Shub-Niggurath" comes over nicely with its variable, keyboardy Melodic Black Metal.
The dark intro "Beyond The Landscape" then opens the second part of the CD, the six new tracks. And there you can detect quite some difference, the Black Metal parts sound more extreme than before, forming an even stronger contrast to the clean sung passages, as the title track "The Dawn" showcases. "The Thing The Sleep In The Abyss" then is more Death Metal and at the same time also more complex than the preceding tracks. "Landscape" contains more excellent clean vocals; BORKNAGAR and DARK TRANQUILLITY, could be seen as influences (together with VINTERSORG)
