VICTIMS OF SOCIETY: …the gloves come off CD. Old school Belgian hardcore "grandpas". Check samples.
Old school hardcore can be the most boring and reactionary musical style, and most of the time I am really annoyed when I have to spend my time with such a band.
The more time you spend with this Belgian hardcore "grandpas" (who started way back in 1992 and released already a great number of albums), the more you come to like them. The songwriting is efficient and very fluid, and the vocals are very different from your regular old school band. Instead of marking the tough guy stance, Jim's vocals are very high-pitched, and if I were mean I'd say more screeched than screamed, but hey, this is what sets them apart from other likewise bands. Back in the late 80s / early 90s, it was often the unlikelier bands (The Accused, Septic Death) that caught my attention, and VOS come very close to that sicko sound. At best when they are fast and furious, Victims Of Society prove that not every old school hardcore band has to drown in clichés. This is refreshing stuff, surprisingly original and while it's a short album, it runs no risk of getting lost in tedious parts.

VICTIMS OF SOCIETY: Glasgow kiss CD. Old school Belgian hardcore "grandpas". Check samples.
When VOS started playing together in 1992, they were a bunch of young and unexperienced kids, but in love with hardcore and dedicated to the bone. the band started playing on a regular base with bands like UK Subs, Funeral Dress etc. the debut ep 'way of life' was released in ’97. Then they create their own label, called Daybreak Records and in 1998 'Screaming alone' is released followed by some intense touring through Spain and the United Kingdom. 'Glasgow kiss', their Funtime Records 2002 release is filled with fast, raging and explosive old skool hardcore. Furious, non sensitive for trendy shit and f*cking hardcore. Give it a try. Note it also contains the amazing cover version of “Playboy Subscriber” by Spermbirds CD.

The story of ZSK sounds like a classic Punkrock fairy-tale. Four friends start a Punkrock band and begin practicing in the basement of their parents house. The first demo-tape sells over 500 copies and beside of shows in small clubs and squats, they play gigs in parking lots of the big halls of NOFX, VANS WARPED TOUR and the SKATEBOARD WORLD CUP. This brings them a lot fans, gigs with THE EXPLOITED, AGNOSTIC FRONT and THE DISTILLERS as well as a record deal. In 2002 they released their first full-length record Riot Radio produced by Flo V. Schwarz and recorded in the Woodhouse Studios, Hagen, including a track by ROGER MIRET from AGNOSTIC FRONT.
