"Way way back in 82' I was a total and utter metal head! Long and hard did I seek the hallowed genre, and many times and often, was looked upon with contempt and even amusement when I entered our local vinyl store seeking albums even then, were deemed obscure and rare!
I usually had to do the dreaded - order and wait! And this album was no exception! I waited and waited for this baby let me tell you! It took effing ages to get to me in fact!
The usual outcome from the above process was an obscure album from an obscure band which due to not being able to pre-hear it, usually left me stuck with a slab of vinyl which was rubbish, and because I had ordered it, expensive rubbish!
SLEDGEHAMMER: Blood On Their Hands LP. It doesn't get any better than this! Check samples.
What an album this is!!
“Perfumed Garden”. www.megawimp.com/mp3/Sledgehammer_perfumed.mp3
Can you believe this???!! This must be one of the best songs I heard in my lifetime! Or the closing number, “Garbandal” – bloody hell!!! And the production of the album – the dry bass, the powerful yet discrete drums and the guitar with sometimes nearly Bob Mould-ish licks and tricks ….. un-fucking-real!!!!
SLEDGEHAMMER first appeared on my radar upon the release of the essential “Metal for Muthas” LP comp. The song “Sledgehammer” has a bit more of a, hmmm – maybe Motörhead-esque feeling to it and I could be totally wrong, but I think MEDIEVAL’s theme song sounds pretty similiar (though a lot dirtier and rawer).

The tytanic break-up of Angel Witch gives us this
“…I hope you realize the cost of your decision, can’t you see that you were wrong…”
When the internal order of almighty Angel Witch began experiencing problems sometime in ’81 (or probably before), drummer Dave Dufort and bassist Kevin 'Skidz' Riddles evaded burning at the stake and formed Tytan, an eventual five-piece that is at times a little more commercial than the group they’d left, but in other instances flex larger muscles.
VARDIS: 100 MPH Live LP, (11 songs) 1980 Classic N.W.O.B.H.M Check audio samples.
A hard-to-find 1980 British METAL LP. “Vardis were a pioneering three-piece new wave of British Heavy Metal between 1978 and 1986. They were from Wakefield in England, and consisted of frontman Steve Zodiac on guitar and lead vocals, Alan Selway on bass and Gary Pearson on drums. Original Vardis records are rare and are valued highly in most record collector's books and guides.
They took the unorthodox approach of comprising their debut album, '100MPH' (1980), of entirely live recordings. This is largely considered to be their finest hour and gained the band a large following early on in their career. They were invited to play the Heavy Metal Holocaust music festival in August 198l alongside Motorhead, Ozzy Osbourne and Triumph. Around 30,000 heavy metal fans were estimated to have attended with the PA reportedly reaching new heights of amplification at over 100,000 watts.

SAXON: Wheels of Steel LP
Wheels of Steel is the second studio album by heavy metal band Saxon. It was released in 1980 (see 1980 in music).
Despite its lyric, "747 (Strangers In The Night)" does not appear to be based on any actual incidents.
The title track is featured in the video games Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned and Brütal Legend. It has also been covered by L.A. Guns.

METAL EXPLOSION Rare N.W.O.B.H.M compilation from the Friday Rock Show Nov. 1980 BBC Records Samson, Taurus, Angel witch, etc
METAL EXPLOSION
REH 397 from the Friday Rock Show was released Nov 1980 BBC Records Samson, Taurus, Angel witch, etc
Eight cuts culled from sessions originally recorded for Radio One's 'Friday Rock Show', this is a sprightly, timely reminder of the oft-ignored depth of talent hidden behind the rapidly rusting NWOBHM handle.
Forget about Gillan's eight minute 'If You Believe Me' and let the likes of 'Paper Chaser' (from the excellent cigarettes 'n' whisky boogie salesmen, Taurus), 'Johnny Cool' (a manifestation of the better side of Praying Mantis' duelling-guitar, melodic hard-rock approach), 'Take It Like A Man' (a deft slice of Samson slashing) and 'Soldier' (from metal muvvas More) bring your blood to the boil.

METAL MUTHAS: Rare compilation LP Signed copy [Unquestionably a true classic that literally blew me away! Compiled by Neal Kay from London's Heavy Metal Sound House; Metal For Muthas introduced what has widely become known as the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. MFM features the very first recordings from Iron Maiden (the rare Sound House Tapes' versions of "Sanctuary" and "Wrathchild.") The record also introduced the underrated cult phenomenon known as Angelwitch, with a Sabbathy tune called "Baphomet." Other highlights include the (pre-
