Debut album for Norwegian rock act. Imagine Queens Of The Stone Age & The Cure, blended with a touch of Kyuss & The Doors. 12 tracks including, 'I'll Play', 'Suffer' & 'Oh You'. 2001 release. Out of print / otherwise unavailable edition of this title.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, even better band,
Although they seem to be pretty big in Europe (and in Norway, which is also in Europe), El Caco is woefully unknown in the US. No idea why. This is an excellent stonerrock album, and sharper than much of the genre (El Caco is more of a Unida-type band). Their next album, Solid Rest is even better.

The VIOLET BURNING: s.t CD Dense turbulent rock (Radiohead, The Cure) you should investigate. Check samples.
5.0 out of 5 stars Dense turbulent rock you should investigate,
For my money one of the greatest lost secrets of rock 'n roll, The Violet Burning produced an absolute classic with this album. A triple guitar line-up helps to produced a thickly layered tapestry that reveals new sounds constantly with each new listen. There's not a track here that is worth fast forwarding. If there is a criticism, it's that the mid-tempo nature of the album is pretty uniform, but it avoids repetitiveness by virtue of the variety of sounds on offer.
The closest muscial reference-point is probably some of Radiohead of "The Bends" era - particularly "Bones", "Planet Telex" & "Bullet Proof", with a sound that in turn growls, shimmers, and turns to sludge in great dollops of almost grungey thickness. One track even uses a dodgy russian guitar pedal to 'channel' a mexican radio station playing opera- "Arabic Tremolo Radio".
Michael Pritzl has a great and highly distinctive voice that can soar, if not like say Thom Yorke or Jeff Buckley, then certainly with its own wistful beauty.
WINTERLAND: Alone in a Fairground CD ..guitar-oriented goth rock a la The Mission or The Cult (Love-era), The Cure
Voted top Gothic Rock act in the Gothic Underground New Zealand Readers Poll. The songs are all strikingly good, all well written and distinctive melodically, sharing a full sweeping sound and a resemblance to dark Gothic rock, in particular Fields Of The Nephilim and Disintegration-era The Cure.
====================================================
Kiwi goth? Well, not exactly since these guys from New Zealand are actually offering a blend of guitar-oriented goth rock a la the Mission or the Cult (Love-era) and melodic rock structures. All in all, this works well, although I doubt it will find a large public: real death- or goth rockers will find this one much too soft & mellow & fans of ordinary rock will consider them a bit weird or just a little too dark. Nevertheless, this album should appeal to anyone who is into catchy or poppy Goth rock.

BURY ME DEEP: Graceheart CD Heavy Metal / Hard Rock. Heavy songs w. melodies and powerful riffs. BLACK SABBATH-like lead riffs
This is a pleasant surprise! Formed in 1993 in Espoo, Finland, writing heavy songs with the emphasis on atmospheric melodies and powerful riffs. The music is heavy with guitar chunk and runs at a fast but not out-of-control pace and the vocals are crisp and clear and well-modulated. All songs are excellent and the biting BLACK SABBATH-like lead riffs are just great.Bury Me Deep became famous at the Helsinki club scene being a band which could deliver either strong headbanging tunes, or delicate and soulful stuff (Used to wreak havoc at the Teatro club in Helsinki with their Danzig and The Doors covers). In 2009 the band returned but with a very GOTHIC sound this time around, so the samples below reflect on the new sound....

CLIPPER: My Tendency CD RARE SOLD OUT CD! South Wales (UK) based modern heavy rock band.
CLIPPER: My Tendency CD £3 South Wales based heavy rock band. [Clipper are a Newport (Wales) band. Its five members grew up here, taking on influences from grunge. When the band worked with acclaimed producer Simon Dawson it was the grunge that he picked up on first. "He wanted to capture a grungy feel on the second two songs," explains Matt. Clipper worked with the producer of Ozzy Osborne and The Stone Roses on their latest EP, My Tendency. The first song - My Tendency - is less heavy than the two B-sides, showing the band has a softer side.
"We chose it as a single because it's quite nondescript in terms of its style," explains Matt. "It's not too heavy but is driven by the drums." Its catchy guitar riff is driven by some impressive drumming, which Matt uses as a fine backdrop for his Pearl Jam-like vocal theatrics.
"My Tendency was almost an apology for over-reaction - male hormones - having a big mouth and offending people," admits Matt. The other songs show the heavier influences on the band, like Metallica, Guns N' Roses, The Jam and Pearl Jam.
Track two - Gotta Say - starts with a bleak shuffle drawn from somewhere between Nirvana and The Cure.
