Dons Of Quixote : Jonny Blaze EP
Inviting uncomfortable flashbacks to Dog Eat Dog and other 1st division rap-metal Yank posses. The Dons surprise us by being a) Londoners and b) quite good. Imagine the Freestylers covering Prodigy tunes. Imagine a battalion of angry chipmunks trying to be Public Enemy. Imagine sports metal riff-stompers on a par
with Beastie Boys classic 'Sabotage', only with a
wibbly-wobbly UK twist.

Now it gets a bit complicated: this is "Thunder in Rock", full-length album number three from the Canadian rock band Myofist. Back home in Canada the disc was called "Fleet Street" and the band Fist. In the U.S., however, the disc was called the same as in Europe ("Thunder in Rock"), but the band name was Fist. Thus Canada = Fist and "Fleet Street", U.S. = Fist and "Thunder in Rock". Are you with me so far?
OK. But when they then would release the disc in Europe, you discover that in England is already a fairly established band also named Fist. Damn it! So what do you do? Well, then it is not enough to change the name of the disc to "Thunder in Rock", to change even the name of the band to Myofist! But only in Europe. Therefore the disc is called both "Thunder in Rock" or "Fleet Street" depending on which country you buy it in. Complicated? Yes. Smart career move? No. Good album? YES!
APES PIGS & SPACEMEN: Transfusion LP 1995. Overlooked Music For Nations classic Advanced British Metal Check all samples & video
In the mid nineties apes pigs and spacemen were a kerrang favourite up and coming British metal band. They signed to Music for nations and released their début album Transfusion, it got mostly decent reviews but the record labels didn't release any singles or give it any noticeable marketing. They never became big (despite getting a lot of votes for best album of 1995 in kerrang.)
5.0 out of 5 stars Transfusion,
fantastic début, the ap&s are probably one of the finest British Metal band though they are relatively forgotten because of music for nations incompetence. But the band is something really special and no one should be without their music, any metal fan should have this record in their collection, I mean the harmonies and sheer talent of vocalist Paul Miro is amazing.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great place,
The best debut ever.
Great place is lively rock that sticks in your head all day.
Do I need this is similarly awesome, with a great reprise at the end.
THUNDERCORE: CD SoulFly, Machine Head, Pantera, Metallica, Fear Factory, Sepultura. Check samples. Free for orders of £20+
Thundercore will be reviving their special brand of metal for a reunion show in the near future. The band formed in the 90's, and emerged as one of the top unsigned bands of the time. The band signed to Sonic Attack records, received local and international radio play, recorded with legendary guitarist, Michael Angelo Batio, and inspired mosh-pits across the country. All great things come to an end, and Thundercore eventually met it's demise. Now the band, fuelled by nostalgia, have agreed to get together and show why Thundercore still impacts local metal. Bret, who hails from Connecticut, spent the last few years fronting Dying Earth, and recently retired his throat. Rob has been jamming with the highly popular Betrayed With A Kiss, and creating Indianapolis Metalfest and Metalfest TV. Dan put in a brief stint fronting Liquid Furnace, and making a brief appearance with Dying Earth. Stacy has done well for himself, putting his skills to work for No More Goodbyes. Chris is currently playing bass for Dying Earth and played briefly with Hollowed Saint. Thundercore's impact continues to be felt through the member's continued love for playing metal.
TYRANT EYES: The Darkest Hour PROMO CD Nevermore, Hammerfall, Savatage, later day Sentenced. Check all samples
A marvellous Scarlet production. Tyrant Eyes is a German power metal band that this year will celebrate their 10-year jubilee. Gaining the experience they now so much witness by playing at several local as well as many national gigs, it was not until the beginning of this millennium they released their first album. The result lies before me and it is glorious!
The Darkest Hour can probably be represented by a mixture of Nevermore, Hammerfall, Savatage and the later Sentenced; up tempo powermetal with the progressive influences of thrash metal guitar play.
The music and sounds are in good balance, well-tuned and quite varied (it pleases with both thrash metal, powermetal and ballads). For example Out of the Dark reminds me a lot of Hammerfall's Legacy Of Kings, only with a thrash metal-intro, while Command And Destroy consists more of ?Nevermore-staves? in combination with ?Savatage-burdens?.
The best song on this album? A difficult choice between The Dawn and The Last Light, but probably the first. It is somewhat extremer than the rest of the album and contains a high Nevermore-percentage (I always go weak on that!).
TUATHA DE DANANN: Tuatha de Danann CD 1st, s.t, debut CD Celtic Metal Heaven a la Skyclad. KILLER! Check samples.
Tuatha de Danann is probably the only metal band in the world that had a midget who used to go on stage to do goofy things while they were playing. The midget dressed like a gnome in order to get into the mood for the gig. Nowadays this midget is not a frequent apperance but they still do hire people who have "special characteristics" (really tall people, etc) to be on stage.

King Kobra is a hard rock band founded by drummer Carmine Appice after his tenure with Ozzy Osbourne from 1983 - 1984. The band during the time of their first two albums included four relatively unknown musicians: vocalist Mark Free, guitarist David Michael-Philips, guitarist Mick Sweda, and bassist Johnny Rod. After two albums on Capitol records (Ready to Strike - November 9, 1985 and Thrill of a Lifetime - 1986) and an independent release entitled "King Kobra III" in 1988, Appice decided to dissolve the band and join guitarist John Sykes on his Blue Murder project in 1989.
