Pages: [A-D] - [E-L] - [M-R] - [S-Z] - [Compilations]

* Sounds: The Heavy METAL ALBUM [Reo Speedwagon, Boston, Molly Hatchet, Journey, Ted Nugent, Judas
Priest, Aerosmith, Frank Marino &Mahogany Rush, Rick Derringer, The Boyzz] £4
* HEAVY: [F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C shinny special album cover and classic songs by The Sensational Alex Harvey
Band, Def Leppard, Thin Lizzy, The Kids, Nazareth, Black Sabbath, Krokus, Rush] £9

* MONSTERS OF ROCK [This is a set of live recordings from all the bands that have played in the first ever
monsters of Rock festival in Donnington: Rainbow (Stargazer + all night long), Scorpions
(2 songs), Saxon, April Wine, Touch, Riot] £9

AMERICA STRIKES BACK: Hagar (live) , April Wine, Riot, Max Webster, Prism, Motels, Red Rider, Moon
Martin,Mink De Ville, Billy Squire. Rare UK compilation £4

* NEW ELECTRIC WARRIORS: 'New Electric Warriors' was released by Logo records, featuring tracks specially
recorded by Silverwing, Vardis, Turbo, Tarot, Jedediah Strut, Warrior, Oxym,
Dawnwatcher, Rhabstallion, Colossus, Bastille, Buffalo, Streetfighter, Kosh and
Race Against Time] £30

* BRUTE FORCE: This album gives everyone a fair crack of the whip though, and the outcome is a real pleasure.
Openers Diamond Head are one of the outstanding successes, 'It's Electric' featuring dynamite
guitarwork and some astonishing vocals from Sean Harris, rich and melodic and oozing a sensual
charisma. Fist prove an interesting proposition, a package of churning, growling menace with a
thoughtful approach. Raven prefer to thrash but do so pretty well, in manner reminiscent of the
first Riot album, in contrast with Prowler's song that follows. ledgehammer reveal a trace of
humour, refusing to take themselves too seriously with 'Fantasia', a pounding mix of gut-level
riffing and wasted vocals that runs into Colin Towns' storming 'Breakdown', which rides a spirited
pomp rock organ riff that kicks like a mule. The ensuing drum feature from Gillan-mate Mick
Underwood is more fun than fire but no less enjoyable for all that, and White Spirit only lose marks
because it's 'Back to The Grind' again. it's great stuff despite its failure to fully capitalise on the
synth, but something new would have gone down better. Quartz and Xero score well with an
energetic, expansive rockers that belongs on a cassette in a fast car on a summer day. Cryer's photo
numbers them as a dodgy looking bunch, (a photo of each band, each member namechecked left to
right, and a brief career rundown to back up the unknown and little known outfits on offer), but the
slow driving force of 'day To day' belies it all with distinction. May West almost take the opposite
course (great looking, duff sounding) but pull 'Black Queen' out of the mire with a subtle but
effective change of course half way through, and close the album in style] £25

METALLERGY: very Rare compilation featuring N.W.O.B.H.M legends QUARTZ, Bernie TORMIE,
WIDOWMAKER, and the Hard Rockers Magnum in some of their best moments. Contains the
classic song “Mainline Riders” which contains the exact bass line that Black Sabbath have used
later on, on one their song “Heaven and Hell”. Geezer Butler has openly admitted that he has
copied the bass riff. Quartz was the support band on one of the Black Sabbath tours………. Jet
Rec. 1980]. £6

Riot. Some bands have 2 songs and a few songs are B' sides of singles] £6

Perry Project] £6

* METAL MUTHAS: Signed copy [Unquestionably a true classic that literally blew me away! Compiled by Neal
Kay from London's Heavy Metal Sound House; Metal For Muthas introduced what has
widely become known as the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. MFM features the very
first recordings from Iron Maiden (the rare Sound House Tapes' versions of "Sanctuary"
and "Wrathchild.") The record also introduced the underrated cult phenomenon known as
Angelwitch, with a Sabbathy tune called "Baphomet." Other highlights include the (pre-
Bruce Bruce Dickinson) Samson epic "Tomorrow Or Yesterday," Sweden's own E.F. Band
with "Fighting For Rock And Roll," (a classic tune), and the classy, progressive-metal
song "Captured City" from Praying Mantis (one of the NWOBHM pioneers who
unfortunately never met with much success.) The other bands on the album are Toad The
Wet Sprocket and Nutz, Ethel The Frog contributing probably their best, and heaviest
track, "Fight Back". An inferior version of Sledgehammer's theme song is also included
(the single version was much heavier.) Nonetheless, MFM is a historic metal compilation
that should be in every true metal-head's collection!] £28

* METAL MUTHAS II: Volume II (originally released on in 1980) does have a few select gems on it. Particularly
the opening and closing cuts from Trespass; a truly underrated British metal band, "Cutting
Loose" by Xero, a great song with very soulful vocals and a totally bitchin' opening riff
and killer lead break! White Spirit (the original band of current Maiden guitarist Jannick
Gers') contributes the track "High Upon High" that features a great vocal performance from
Bruce Ruff. Dark Star was another band who never hit it big, but does contribute a catchy
hard rockin' tune called "Lady Of Mars." "Hard Lines" by The Raid (formerly Jameson's
Raid) is a decent tune with a great opening bass line. £16
